Termius is a polished product with support, team vaults and enterprise integrations – if you need those, it earns its price. But if your reason for looking at Termius was just "I want my hosts on both my laptop and my phone", Termax covers exactly that without a bill and without an account. Termius moved jump hosts, agent forwarding and serial into its free tier on 21 September 2026, so for jump hosts, port forwarding, Telnet and serial there is no price difference any more: Termax offers them for free too (port forwarding on Windows and Android, not possible in the browser). What still sets the two apart is sync, price and the account.

Termax as a Termius alternative – common questions

How is Termax different from Termius Free?
Less than most comparison pages claim. Termius Free today includes the terminal, SFTP, Telnet, Mosh, port forwarding and locally saved hosts, and since 21 September 2026 also jump hosts, agent forwarding and serial. What sits behind Termius Pro ($10/month, $120/year) is mainly the cloud vault with cross-device sync, plus session logs. Termax gives you that sync for free, end-to-end encrypted – and Termax runs entirely without an account, while Termius requires you to register even for the free tier. No ads; only optional dictation is paid.
Do I need an account to use Termax?
No. Termax works fully without any account – install the app and start adding connections; they're stored locally, encrypted with Windows DPAPI or the Android Keystore. A free account is only needed if you want to synchronize your connections between PC and phone, and even then the sync is end-to-end encrypted so the server never sees your data.
Is the sync as secure as Termius?
Termax sync is zero-knowledge: your data is encrypted on-device with a key derived from your master password (Argon2id) and then encrypted again with AES-256-GCM before it ever hits the network. The Termax server stores only opaque ciphertext.
Can I migrate from Termius to Termax?
Yes. Termax reads your ~/.ssh/config automatically, which covers most connections you have configured on other systems. For Termius-specific data, export it as OpenSSH config from Termius Settings, then let Termax pick it up on next launch.
Is there an iOS version?
Not yet – iOS is on the roadmap. In the meantime iOS users can open termax.app in Safari and use Quick Connect right in the browser – a full SSH terminal without install.
Can I use Termius without an account or without logging in?
Not really - Termius requires you to create an account and sign in even for the free tier, and the app is built around that account. That is exactly the friction Termax avoids: you install it, add a host and connect, with no registration at any point. An account in Termax is optional and exists solely to sync your vault between devices, and even then the vault is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, so the server never sees anything readable.
Is there an open source Termius alternative?
If open source is your hard requirement, the honest answers are ConnectBot on Android and PuTTY or OpenSSH on the desktop - Termax is free but not open source, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What Termax offers instead is the combination those tools do not have in one place: terminal, SFTP, key generation and end-to-end encrypted cross-device sync, free and without an account. Pick on the criterion that actually matters to you.
Termius or JuiceSSH - which should I pick on Android in 2026?
Neither, if you are starting fresh. JuiceSSH was pulled from the Play Store in December 2025 and last saw a release in 2021, so it is no longer an option for new installs.
