// Termax vs Termius

The features Termius charges for — free in Termax

Termius Free is deliberately limited: you can open an SSH connection, but you can't save it, can't sync it, can't manage SFTP files. Everything useful sits behind Termius Pro. Termax includes it all at zero cost.

Termius is a polished product with support and enterprise integrations — pay if you need them. If your reason for looking at Termius was just "I want to save SSH sessions and sync them between my laptop and phone", Termax covers that scenario without a bill.

// Sync

Cross-device sync — free and end-to-end encrypted

The same feature Termius sells as its main upsell. In Termax it's included, optional, and cryptographically stronger than most vault providers.

  • Zero-knowledge: the server stores only ciphertext (Argon2id + AES-256-GCM) — no server operator can read your credentials, ever.
  • Optional: Termax works completely without sync. Turn it off; it does nothing.
  • Byte-identical vault: a vault created on your Windows PC opens unchanged on your Android phone.

// FAQ

Termax as a Termius alternative — common questions

How is Termax different from Termius Free?
Termius Free lets you use SSH but locks saved sessions, sync between devices, SFTP and identity management behind Termius Pro (a paid subscription). In Termax, all of these features are included at no cost — saved sessions, connection manager, cross-device sync, SFTP file manager and SSH key generation. There is no premium tier and no ads.
Do I need an account to use Termax?
No. Termax works fully without any account — install the app and start adding connections; they're stored locally, encrypted with Windows DPAPI or the Android Keystore. A free account is only needed if you want to synchronize your connections between PC and phone, and even then the sync is end-to-end encrypted so the server never sees your data.
Is the sync as secure as Termius?
Termax sync is zero-knowledge: your data is encrypted on-device with a key derived from your master password (Argon2id) and then encrypted again with AES-256-GCM before it ever hits the network. The Termax server stores only opaque ciphertext.
Can I migrate from Termius to Termax?
Yes. Termax reads your ~/.ssh/config automatically, which covers most connections you have configured on other systems. For Termius-specific data, export it as OpenSSH config from Termius Settings, then let Termax pick it up on next launch.
Is there an iOS version?
Not yet — iOS is on the roadmap. In the meantime iOS users can open termax.app in Safari and use Quick Connect right in the browser — a full SSH terminal without install.
