// Features

A full-featured SSH client for Windows and Android.

Manage connections

All your SSH servers in one place: create, save, search and connect with a single click. Termax is your SSH connection manager for many hosts — instead of typing ssh user@host every time.

Full-featured terminal

A real terminal (xterm.js) with full color, mouse and keyboard — as a standalone app, not just a tab in your browser.

SFTP file manager

Upload and download files over SSH with a progress bar — right next to the terminal, with no extra program like WinSCP.

SSH keys in one click

Generate ed25519 and RSA keys directly in the app — without the command line, without ssh-keygen or PuTTYgen.

Snippets & commands

Save recurring commands as snippets and reuse them on any server in seconds.

~/.ssh/config import

Bring your existing configuration along: on the PC, Termax reads your ~/.ssh/config automatically; on Android you import it as a file.

Encrypted on your device

Termax secures passwords and keys through your system's key store — Windows DPAPI or Android Keystore (hardware-backed). Only your device can open them.

End-to-end sync

Create it on the PC, connect on your phone. End-to-end encrypted — the sync server only stores ciphertext and cannot read your content. Optional and can be turned off at any time.

Local & GDPR-friendly

Works offline. Your connection data stays with you — no third-party server needed, developed in Germany.

// Platforms

Windows and Android — almost identical.

Termax is a cross-platform SSH client for Windows and Android. Both apps share the same vault, the same encryption and the same end-to-end sync. Only a few convenience features still depend on the platform today.

FeatureWindowsAndroid
Terminal — color, mouse, keyboard
SFTP file manager
Generate keys (ed25519/RSA)
Snippets & commands
End-to-end sync (optional)
~/.ssh/config import
SSH agent authentication

On the PC, Termax reads ~/.ssh/config automatically; on Android you pick the file via “Import SSH config”. SSH agent auth requires a running SSH agent — which Android does not have.

// Sync

How do I sync SSH connections between PC and phone?

With the optional sync in Termax: you create a connection on your Windows PC and keep using it on your Android phone after signing in — and the other way around. The sync is end-to-end encrypted, voluntary and can be turned off at any time.

  • Zero-knowledge: the server only stores unreadable ciphertext (Argon2id + AES-256-GCM) and cannot see your content.
  • No strings attached: Termax works completely without sync and without an account — the sync is an option, not a requirement.
  • Byte-identical: a vault created on the PC opens unchanged on your phone.

// Security

Security that stays out of your way.

For Termax, security and privacy are not an upsell. Your credentials are yours — and they stay with you. Developed in Germany, GDPR-friendly.

  • 01
    Keys never leave your device. Decryption happens locally only — without an account through the device protection (DPAPI/Keystore), with an account from your master password.
  • 02
    Argon2id + AES-256-GCM for the sync. The account vault is end-to-end encrypted — byte-identical on Windows and Android: a vault created on the PC opens on your phone.
  • 03
    Host key verification against MITM. Every server key is recorded on the first connection; if it changes, the connection is refused.
  • 04
    No tracking, no telemetry without consent. Anonymous usage statistics are off by default and can be turned off at any time — an SSH client that does not spy on you.

// Alternative

Termax as an alternative to PuTTY, Termius & WinSCP

Looking for a more modern or more affordable SSH client? Termax combines terminal, SFTP and key management in one free app — for Windows and Android, local and without an account.

PuTTY alternative

PuTTY is stable, but dated: no built-in file manager, no mobile app. Termax offers a modern terminal, SFTP and key generation in one app — plus Android. Your ~/.ssh/config is imported automatically.

Termius alternative

Termius locks saved sessions and device sync behind a subscription and a cloud account. With Termax, connections, sync, SFTP and keys are free — entirely without an account and with end-to-end sync.

WinSCP alternative

WinSCP transfers files, but for the terminal you need PuTTY alongside it. Termax brings a real terminal and an SFTP file manager in one app — no more switching between two programs.

JuiceSSH alternative (Android)

Need a replacement for a discontinued Android SSH app? Termax is an actively maintained SSH client for Android — with a matching Windows app and optional encrypted sync.

Termax is freeware (not open source). Your connection data stays local on your device; the optional sync is end-to-end encrypted.

// FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Termax and SSH

Answered in brief: SSH basics, security, privacy and how Termax differs from PuTTY and Termius.

What is an SSH client?
An SSH client is a program you use to open an encrypted connection to a remote server so you can control it from the command line or transfer files. Termax is a graphical SSH client for Windows and Android: you save your servers as connections and open a full terminal with a single click. Your credentials are encrypted locally on your device.
Is Termax free?
Yes, Termax is completely free. Saving connections, the terminal, the SFTP file manager, key generation, snippets and the optional end-to-end sync are all available at no extra cost and with no subscription. You can also use Termax entirely without an account.
Which free SSH client for Windows is worth recommending?
Well-known free options are PuTTY, MobaXterm (with limits) and WinSCP for files. Termax is a modern, equally free alternative made in Germany that combines a terminal, an SFTP file manager and key generation in a single app — exactly what you would otherwise need PuTTY and WinSCP side by side for. On top of that, there is a matching Android app with the same feature set.
Is Termax a good PuTTY alternative?
Yes. Termax offers a modern terminal (xterm.js), a built-in SFTP file manager, convenient connection management and graphical key generation — features that PuTTY either lacks or only provides through add-on tools. Unlike PuTTY, Termax also runs on Windows and Android with optional end-to-end sync. Termax imports your ~/.ssh/config automatically.
Is Termax a free Termius alternative?
Yes. Termius locks saving sessions and syncing across devices behind a paid subscription and a cloud account. With Termax, saved connections, sync, SFTP and key generation are free — and you can use Termax completely without an account and without the cloud. The optional sync is also end-to-end encrypted.
Is there a Termax SSH app for Android?
Yes, Termax is available as an Android app (.apk for Android 7.0 and newer). It offers the same core features as the Windows version: terminal, SFTP file manager, key generation and snippets. Connections you create on your PC can be carried over to your phone via the optional end-to-end sync.
How do I sync SSH connections between PC and phone?
With the optional sync in Termax: you create a connection on your Windows PC and keep using it on your Android phone after signing in. The sync is end-to-end encrypted (Argon2id + AES-256-GCM) — the server only ever stores unreadable ciphertext and cannot see your content. The sync is voluntary and can be turned off at any time.
Are my SSH passwords and keys stored securely in Termax?
Yes. Termax stores passwords and keys encrypted through your system's key store — on Windows via DPAPI, on Android via the Keystore (hardware-backed). Without an account, decryption stays tied to your device; with an account it is additionally derived from your master password. Your credentials therefore never leave your device unencrypted.
Is Termax GDPR-friendly?
Yes. Termax works completely offline, collects no telemetry by default and is developed in Germany. Your connection data stays local on your device; no third-party server is required. The optional sync is end-to-end encrypted, so no readable data leaves your device there either.
How do I create an SSH key (ed25519) in Termax?
In Termax you generate SSH keys with a few clicks directly in the app — either ed25519 or RSA. You need neither the command line nor ssh-keygen or PuTTYgen for it. The generated key is stored encrypted locally and can be used right away to sign in to your servers.
What is the difference between SSH and SFTP?
SSH is the encrypted protocol for remote access to a server, typically for the command line. SFTP is the file transfer that runs over the same secure SSH channel. Termax combines both: you work in the terminal and transfer files through the built-in SFTP file manager — in one app, without a separate program.
What does the host key warning on first connect mean?
On the first connection, Termax remembers the server's unique key (fingerprint). If it later changes unexpectedly, Termax refuses the connection — this protects you against man-in-the-middle attacks, where a third party impersonates your server. Host key verification is built in and makes sure you are really talking to your server.
Can I use Termax in the browser without installing anything?
Yes. On termax.app you open an SSH connection right in your browser via Quick Connect — without installing anything and without an account. You enter the host, username and password and immediately get a real terminal in the browser. For saved connections, the SFTP file manager and end-to-end sync, use the free app for Windows or Android.
Does Termax also run on macOS or Linux?
The installable app is currently available for Windows and Android; macOS, iOS and Linux apps are planned. Regardless of your operating system, you can already use Termax right in your browser today — the Quick Connect web app on termax.app works on Mac and Linux too.
What does Termax cost?
Termax is free. There is no subscription and no paid features: the terminal, the SFTP file manager, key generation, snippets and the end-to-end sync are all available at no extra cost — and, if you prefer, entirely without an account.
Is Termax secure?
Yes. Credentials are encrypted locally (Windows DPAPI or Android Keystore), the optional sync is end-to-end encrypted (Argon2id + AES-256-GCM), and when connecting Termax verifies the host key against man-in-the-middle attacks. There is no telemetry by default, and Termax works offline. With Quick Connect in the browser, the connection runs through a gateway that works only in RAM and stores no credentials.
