Real terminal (xterm.js)
Colour, mouse, function keys, external keyboards – the terminal works properly, not "kind of" like on some mobile clients.
// SSH client for Android · 2026
The free SSH client for Android with terminal & SFTP.
Termax is a modern SSH app for Android 7 and later: real terminal, SFTP file manager, SSH key generation, port forwarding, jump hosts and optional end-to-end encrypted sync with your PC. No ads, no mandatory account, core features free for good. A worthy JuiceSSH replacement.
Free, sync included · no account needed · no AI reading along · made in Germany

// What it does
A full SSH workstation, on Android
SFTP file manager
Browse, upload, download. Drag files from your phone straight to a server, or grab a config file from a remote host on the go.
SSH key generation
Generate ed25519 or RSA keys on-device – no ssh-keygen, no laptop required. Store them protected by the Android Keystore.
Snippets
Save commands you type over and over. Paste them into any session with one tap.
Optional PC ↔ phone sync
Add a server on your Windows PC, connect to it from your phone. End-to-end encrypted; the server sees only ciphertext.
No ads, core features free
Terminal, SFTP, keys and sync are free without freemium games; only dictation is an optional paid extra. If you like it, tell someone – that's how solo developers grow.
Port forwarding
Local and remote tunnels straight from the phone, plus “Open web interface…” for Proxmox, Home Assistant or your router. The paid forwarding JuiceSSH users lost is free here.
Jump hosts (ProxyJump)
Reach the internal network through up to three bastion hosts, like ssh -J. ProxyJump from an imported ~/.ssh/config comes along.
Telnet and serial over USB OTG
Telnet for older switches and routers, plus a serial console through a USB OTG adapter with an FTDI, CP210x, CH34x, PL2303 or CDC-ACM chip, preset to 9600 8N1.

// FAQ
SSH client for Android – common questions
Is Termax a good JuiceSSH replacement?
Yes. If you were using JuiceSSH and are looking for a modern, actively-developed replacement, Termax offers the same core features – real SSH terminal, saved connections, SSH key management – plus an SFTP file manager, free port forwarding and jump hosts, and optional cross-device sync with the Windows app. Free, no ads; only optional dictation is paid (Termax Premium).
Does Termax for Android support hardware keyboards?
Yes. Bluetooth and USB keyboards work in the terminal, including modifier keys and function keys. External mice work too – you can select text and scroll like on a desktop.
Can I install Termax as APK without Google Play?
Yes. A signed APK is on termax.app. Enable Install from unknown sources for your browser, then open the APK. Google Play delivers automatic updates; with the APK you update manually.
Does Termax on Android use much battery or data?
SSH is text-based and extremely bandwidth-efficient – a typical shell session uses a few kilobytes per minute. Battery impact is minimal because the terminal only renders while active.
Where are my SSH credentials stored on Android?
In the hardware-backed Android Keystore. Keys and passwords never leave the device unencrypted; on devices with a secure element they are protected by hardware. Without an account there is no cloud involved at all.
Does Termax work offline?
The app itself works offline – you can review your connection list, edit configs, and generate keys without a network. You'll need a network to actually reach an SSH server, of course.
