A full xterm-compatible terminal with true colour, mouse support, tabs and a scrollback buffer - not a cut-down console.

SFTP file manager

Browse, upload and download files on the same connection. No second app, no separate WinSCP window.

SSH key generation

Create ed25519 or RSA keys in the app and push the public key to your server. No PuTTYgen, no command line.

Connection manager

Save hosts, ports, users, keys and jump hosts (up to three in a row) once. Reads an existing ~/.ssh/config automatically, ProxyJump entries included.

Port forwarding

Local and remote tunnels on Windows, Linux and Android, plus a SOCKS5 proxy on the PC. Not possible in the browser.

Telnet

For switches, routers and older devices without SSH - in the Windows, Linux and Android apps, in the browser with an account. Telnet is unencrypted, and Termax says so clearly.

Serial console (COM)

Cisco consoles and microcontrollers on a COM port, preset to 9600 8N1 - on Windows and Linux, on Android with a USB OTG adapter and in the browser with Chrome or Edge.

Optional end-to-end sync

Add a host on the PC and it appears on the phone. Encrypted with Argon2id + AES-256-GCM before upload - the server only ever holds ciphertext.

Download – common questions

Is this the official Termax website?
Yes. termax.app is the only official website for the Termax SSH client, run by its developer Mark Tietz in Waltenhofen, Germany. The Android build is also published on Google Play under the package name de.termax.app. Any other site offering a "Termax SSH" download is a mirror we do not control - please download from here or from Google Play.
Where do I get the Termax APK?
Directly from this page. The APK on termax.app is the same version as on Google Play, but signed with our own key; Google Play signs with a key managed by Google. That is why Google Play does not update an app installed from the APK (and vice versa): Termax tells you about new versions itself. To switch between the two, uninstall the app first - with an account, your connections come back via sync. Use the APK if you have no Play Store on the device, or if you want to keep a specific version. Verify it with the SHA-256 checksum listed above before installing.
Is the download free, and is there a paid version?
It is free. Terminal, SFTP, saved connections, SSH key generation and end-to-end encrypted sync are free for good, with no expiring trial and no ads. Optionally there is Termax Premium with dictation (speak commands instead of typing) and cloud sessions (your SSH session keeps running for up to 24 hours) for €1.99 a month or €19.90 a year.
Do I need an account to use Termax?
No. You can install Termax and connect to a server without registering anything. An account is optional and exists only if you want to sync connections between your PC and your phone - and even then your vault is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded.
Which Windows versions are supported?
Windows 10 and Windows 11, 64-bit. The installer is a standard .exe. It is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen will warn on first run - click "More info" and then "Run anyway". The SHA-256 checksum above lets you verify you got the untampered file.
